Rashawn Griffin, exhibiting artist in Round 56, Post Hip-Hop? Or Return of the Boom Bap!, utilizes a variety of materials in his installation—including clay. Participants in this workshop will take a short tour of Rashawn’s installation to learn more about his practice, then move to the workshop space where they will get to create ceramic sculptures inspired by his artwork.
Rashawn’s repetitive practice of making small, spherical beads and combining them to form creature-like sculptures will be the model and focus of this workshop. While making, participants will receive guidance from experienced local ceramic artists and listen to a curated playlist that represents the golden age of Hip-Hop.
After the workshop, the pieces will be dried and fired in a kiln at Glassell School of Art. This workshop is for ages 10+ and registration is limited to 15 participants.
