Join Project Row Houses for a bus tour of public art created by the founding artists of PRH. Led by Ryan N. Dennis, Curator and Programs Director, and Jeanette Degollado, Public Art Coordinator, participants will have the opportunity to view works that build upon the backdrop of iconic sites across Houston, including the University of Houston Downtown, the Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Hermann Park, and more! The tour will feature discussions with Jesse Lott, Floyd Newsum, Bert Samples, and George Smith, allowing participants to explore and reflect on the founding artists' rich artistic practices.

Each iteration of the tour will vary slightly, featuring an artist talk that highlights a specific founder.  Details below.

Please arrive by 11:45am as the tour will begin promptly at Noon.

Free Market Square is a community marketplace in the heart of Third Ward that highlights its culture, entrepreneurship and artistic performance throughout the year.  Free Market Square aims to reignite the historic legacy of our community and add to the strength, vibrancy, and self-determination of the Historic Third Ward.  Our market is free and family-friendly hosting local vendors, arts interactive for children and adults, and live performances by established and up-and-coming performers in music and dance. This market is focused on the sale of local farmers produce, food/drinks, designer products, original goods that are handmade, customized, fair-trade, and vintage resellers.

Vendor Guidelines

Please check-in with the VENDOR COORDINATOR, prior to setting up to receive booth space assignment.

  1. Set-up time: 8:00 to 9:45 am. Vendors should be set-up and ready to sell by 10:00 am.
  2. Payment must be received to guarantee a space. Vendors who have not pre-paid can check on space availability on the day of the Market.
  3. Booth space is approximately 10’ x 10’. Tents must be no bigger than 10’x10’ Pop-up Tent.
  4. Vendors must provide ALL that you need to vend. (change, pop-up tent, tables, chairs, lighting, displays, office supplies, flyers, etc.)
  5. Tables, chairs, and other equipment must fit within the 10' x 10' booth space.
  6. Electricity is not available.
  7. Breakdown completion time: 5 pm
  8. FMS is not responsible for merchandise or other belongings left behind.
  9. Food vendors are required to get and provide a Temporary Food Permit and follow City of Houston Health Dept regulations see

Meet Maria Papadimitriou! Maria is the native Athenian artist who developed and launched Victoria Square Project with Rick Lowe for documenta 14. As an artist, Maria is known for her ability to examine participatory projects and collective actions that highlight the cross-section of art and social reality. 

Get to know Maria as you tour Victoria Square Project with Founding Director Rick Lowe to see how Athenian artists have applied the PRH model to a community of refugees relocated to Greece. 

We'll also be visiting her project Souzy Tros, a collaborative community space that seeks to weave people together through an open embrace of diverse communities!

Journey with Us to Athens!

Experience the PRH model on a global scale as we set off to Athens, Greece and visit the newly established Victoria Square Project. Guided by 2014 MacArthur Fellow and PRH Founding Director Rick Lowe, we'll see how Athenian artists have applied the PRH model to a community of refugees in need of a catalyst for empowerment.   

In Athens, we will tour Victoria Square, visit the studios of local artists, and participate in unique experiences and workshops that have developed through this social sculpture. Registration for this trip is priced at $2500 per person and includes lodging, meals, ground transportation, exclusive artist engagement opportunities and entrance to cultural institutions.  Air travel is not included.

Registration will increase to $3000 on March 1, 2018. Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience!
