Join the residents of Summer Studios 2016 for an opening reception and presentation of their installations. Under the guidance of mentor artist Kaneem Smith and public art director Ryan N. Dennis, the residents have honed their artistic practices, discussed community engagement and developed the installations on view.
Participating 2016 residents include Amiri Boykin (Rice University), Rachel Even (University of Houston), Devon Grigsby (University of Houston), Robert Riojas (Texas Southern University), Caroline Ryan (University of Houston) and Huidi Xiang (Rice University). The residents were selected via a panel of Kaneem Smith (mentor artist), Ryan N. Dennis (Public Art Director, PRH) and Karen Bertonaschi (artist and PRH Board member).
The Summer Studios Program was developed to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to create and exhibit work that responds to, engages and/or is reflective of community. This program is open to six local college/university art students, nominated by their professors and selected by a panel of professional artists. This Program is open to students who are interested in making art in an urban community setting, engaging with the PRH/ Third Ward Community and interacting with established Houston-based artists.
Summer Studios is presented with generous support from Clare Casademont and Michael Metz.
