Join the Summer Studios residents as they discuss their projects, finalized after 6 weeks of working in the row houses and participating in group critiques.
This summer offered the residents a unique experience, as the program will be co-led by Public Art Director Ryan N. Dennis and artist William Cordova. The students will have the opportunity to build and share with one another by receiving individual/group critiques by Cordova and other artists/curators, provide post discussions on readings, and visits to other organizations throughout the city.
Participating artists include Sula Bermudez-Silverman (Honorary Resident), Guadalupe Hernandez (Houston Baptist University), Jennifer Mendez (University of St. Thomas), Kingsley Onyeiwu (Texas Southern University), Shaun Parker (University of Houston), and Kandise Ponce (University of Houston). Summer Studios 2015 will also feature an installation by artist William Cordova.
About Summer Studios
Summer Studios was developed to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to create and exhibit work that responds to, engages and/or is reflective of community. This program is open to local college/university art students, nominated by their professors and selected by a panel of professional artists. Summer Studios engages students and emerging artists who are interested in making art in an urban community setting, engaging with the PRH/Third Ward Community and interacting with established Houston-based artists.
