Co-presenters: Project Row Houses and Aurora Picture Show
$12 | Tickets available online
Project Row Houses joins Aurora Picture Show and Houston Cinema Arts to host acclaimed filmmaker and cinematographer (Daughters of the Dust, Crooklyn) Arthur Jafa for two programs: a screening on Saturday, November 14, at Aurora Picture Show and a freewheeling Artist Talk and screening of short works at Project Row Houses on Sunday, November 15. Jafa is a visionary thinker, whose concept of a Black aesthetic in cinema has been highly influential. He has remained singularly committed to promoting a Black cinema that is “as rich in power, beauty, and alienation as black music.”
Dreams Are Colder than Death is a profound rumination on a single question: “What does it mean to be black in America today?” The film is an unprecedented ‘stream of the black consciousness’ and a strikingly original, kaleidoscopic look at black intellectual and emotional life.
