Adjuncts Unite! | Round 44

  • Charge 2507 Holman Street Houston, TX, 77004 United States

Adjuncts Unite with Amanda Hart from Texas American Federation of Teachers
Saturday May 21, 11 AM - 1 PM
Charge House at 2507 Holman Street, Project Row Houses
A light lunch will be provided

Join Charge for a round table discussion about how Houston can join other adjuncts that are organizing for better pay and working conditions across the country. At a time when higher education institutions are balancing their budgets on the backs of adjuncts, now is the time to reexamine the nature of this pervasive labor practice and how to build a movement to change it.

Charge invites all Houston Area adjuncts from the University of Houston, Houston Community College, Texas Southern University, Lonestar Community College, San Jacinto Community College, University of St. Thomas, and Rice University to join the conversation as we take the first necessary step to address this invasive inequality.

The adjuncts round table will be facilitated by Amanda Hart from the Texas Chapter of the American Federation of Teachers. Amanda, a Houston native, has been working in the labor movement or community organizing for the better part of the last decade. Prior to coming on as a Higher Ed lead organizer for Texas AFT she worked as a K-12 organizer for the National Education Association and a Communications Specialist for a janitors union in Detroit. Prior to moving to the Midwest to work for SEIU Local 1 she spent years working as the social justice reporter for the Free Press Houston where she covered issues ranging from income inequality to human trafficking.
